A Cellular and Genetic Engineering graduate is a life sciences professional who can apply this knowledge in both an industrial context to control and engineer bioprocesses, and in a research environment for fundamental and applied research.With this diploma you gain access to a wide range of employment sectors. Partly due to the interest and training in scientific research, you can go on to train for a PhD and flow through to jobs in research and educational institutions (university, higher education, government). You can also move to a managerial or research position in the biotechnology, the pharmaceutical, the chemical or the agro- or food industry. In Belgium, graduates of this programme are entitled to use the professional title of 'Bio-ingenieur' ('Bioscience Engineer').

General requirements

  • The programme welcomes applications from holders of an academic bachelor's degree in engineering (bioscience engineering, biomedical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, or any equivalent engineering degree), and holders of other bachelor's or master's degrees encompassing thorough coursework in at least mathematics and statistics, physics, chemistry, biology and physiology. This degree should be obtained at a recognized university, college or institute, with an end result of at least second class upper or equivalent.

  • All applicants who have not obtained a previous diploma in a programme taught in English in Australia, English-speaking Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States of America must submit a certificate proving their proficiency in English. All applicants need to meet the minimum language requirements of KU Leuven.
