Overview
The Innovation, Strategy and Organisation course from the University of Cambridge has been designed for students seeking to extend their knowledge of social science methodologies and their application to the interdisciplinary study of organisations. The MPhil ISO programme is oriented to those seeking to prepare for a career in academic research.
Advanced study and research in this degree focus on innovation and change through three interconnecting themes: innovation and work practices, innovation and strategic change, and organisation theory. One taught module is provided in each of these areas. Modules in research methods and taught electives will also be offered. The MPhil ISO programme offers a route to a PhD.
The Educational aims of this programme are:
- to give students, with relevant experience at the first-degree level, the opportunity to carry out focused research under close supervision in the fields of strategy, organisational theory and information systems relevant to innovation; and
- to give students the opportunity to acquire or develop skills and expertise relevant to their research interests.

By the end of this course students should have:
- developed a deep knowledge of their chosen areas of management research and of the academic debates within them;
- acquired sufficient knowledge and experience of research methods to undertake advanced research;
- achieved a conceptual understanding that enables the evaluation of current research and methodologies;
- acquired or consolidated skills appropriate for research in their chosen area;
- demonstrated independent judgement, based on their own research;
- presented their own ideas in a public forum and learned to contribute constructively to debates within an international research community.
Programme Structure
Curriculum:- The MPhil in Innovation, Strategy and Organisation is an interdisciplinary degree exploring innovation and change through three interconnecting themes: innovation and work practices, innovation and strategic change, and organisational theory.
- The programme seeks to provide the methodological and theoretical foundation for further research and is specifically aimed at students intending to continue to a PhD degree, whether in Cambridge or elsewhere.
