Overview

The objectives of the Settlement Archaeology program from METU Middle East Technical University are to train students in both the scientific-technological and social science-humanities disciplines necessary to conduct archaeological research according to contemporary international standards. The primary purpose is to train students as advanced scholars in settlement archaeology for university level teaching, research and active participation in national and international archaeological projects in Turkey.

Program Outputs:

• To gain expertise in archaeological method and theory and develop ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment,
• To become skillful in accessing and evaluating archaeological data regardless of chronological and geographical boundaries while specializing in a specific period and region,
• To be able to look at the past as a whole grasping the interdisciplinary nature of archaeology and its relationship to other disciplines,
• To be able to express what he/she learned both orally and in writing, -To have excellent command of both traditional and modern research methods,
• To have the infrastructure to follow up to date publications and other researches in the area of interest,
• To be aware of professional ethics and to have the ability to adopt them,
• To possess technical skills that is necessary in fieldwork,
• To be aware of social, environmental and economic impact of his/her professional activities,
• To be able to conduct work in a team and to be able to lead a team when required.
