Overview
Students will be introduced to new tools and methods enabling them to investigate:
- how the brain works
- interacts with the body
- drives behaviour
- forms the basis for a complex biological machine, which has allowed humans to achieve amazing milestones in artistic creativity, technology and invention.
The Master in Neuroscience at University of Trieste students will acquire strong professional skills for the development of fundamental knowledge and innovative therapies and diagnostics for more than 1,000 nervous system disorders that affect over 1 billion people worldwide.
This two-year Programme was founded in 2003 in collaboration with the Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati (SISSA) of Trieste.
They provide training with continuously updated topics in Cellular Neurobiology, Molecular Neurophysiology, Neuroanatomy, Neuropathology, Neuropharmacology, Cognitive Sciences and Neuroimaging.
Visiting professors integrate the teaching staff bringing students into contact with distinguished neuroscientists from prestigious European and extra-European Universities.
From 2009, an intensive workshop on professionalizing topics oriented towards the labour market is held by speakers from large industries and small/medium enterprises.

General requirements
The International Master’s Degree in Neuroscience is open to graduates from the degree courses in Scienze Biologiche as well as in the corresponding degree classes envisaged by M.D. 509/99 or other equivalent qualification.
The Master’s Degree in Neuroscience is open also to those holding a degree or undergraduate diploma provided that during their course of study, they have acquired an overall total of at least 60 CFU in the subjects referred to the groups of SSD specified below:
- at least 15 CFU in subjects belonging to one or more of the following SSD: CHIM/01-CHIM/12, MAT/01-MAT/09, FIS/01-FIS/08, INF/01, MED/01, SECS/01-02;
- at least 20 CFU in subjects belonging to one or more of the following SSD: BIO/01, BIO/04-BIO/07, BIO/09, BIO/16, BIO/17, MED/04, MED/08, M-PSI/02, VET/01, VET/02;
- at least 25 CFU in subjects belonging to one or more of the following SSD: BIO/10-BIO/14, BIO/18, BIO/19, MED/03, MED/07, AGR/07, AGR/16.
