Overview

This Geography course at University of Minho is aimed at deepening the scientific and technical knowledge of the students in: the main challenges arising from the strong growth of tourism in terms of land management and its communicational dynamics; the ongoing trends of social, economic and environmental changes and their implications in spatial organization, including threats they pose and opportunities they present; the valorisation of natural resources and the minimization of vulnerabilities and risks; the creation of information, integrated analysis and land modelling and scenario building at various scales, made possible by GIS and Remote Sensing.

Key learning outcomes

The MG aims to deepen the knowledge acquired in degrees of the area of Geography(or related), as well as to provide an academic and professional specialisation based on an interdisciplinary and flexible training, with the integration of CU of several scientific areas in its study plan.

• provide students with the appropriate theoretical and methodological references for the development of scientific research, particularly with an application to land-use planning and management;

• promote students’ autonomy in order to extend their scientific research competences, especially with regard to critical reflection and innovation capacities;

• establish a closer contact with work environments.
