Overview

The Academic Master in Contemporary Art Markets explores how contemporary art is valued, promoted and brought to market, examining the relationships between artists, collectors and institutions. Taught in English over one year at the NABA Milan campus, it combines cultural insight with the legal and economic knowledge needed to work within the art sector.

Students develop historical and critical judgement alongside specialised communication and management skills, learning to interpret market dynamics and develop art projects. Contact with professionals and institutions provides insight into the roles and working practices of the Italian and international art system.

Throughout the programme, students learn to:

• Interpret art market dynamics and understand the roles of the professionals working within the sector.
• Apply cultural, legal and economic knowledge to the management and promotion of art and collections.
• Develop projects that combine critical analysis and specialised communication with practical and managerial skills.

• Curator of private and corporate collections
• Manager of artists’ foundations and archives
• Auction house specialist
• Art dealer
• Project manager for galleries, museums and foundations
• Communication manager and journalist
• Art advisor
• Consultant for legal and financial art services

The programme awards a First Level Academic Master Degree recognised by the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR), with 60 CFA credits.

Accreditation

NABA’s Academic Master qualifications are recognised by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR), have full legal status and are equivalent to Italian first-level university master qualifications. The credits awarded can support further study at academies and universities in Italy and abroad, subject to each institution’s admission and credit recognition requirements.
