Overview

We cater for ambitious employees in the private and public sectors who wish to develop their management skills and enhance their career opportunities. This is a conversion programme, designed primarily for graduates in disciplines other than management. However, candidates with prior management or business education may be admitted, depending on their career needs. The programme is offered by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

The Operations Management programme

The Operations Management programme provides students with the needed foundation in the main functional areas of management, along with in-depth training in operations management. It provides:

• Theoretical and practical knowledge relevant to practising managers in the private and public sectors;
• Essential techniques and generic skills required for managerial effectiveness;
• A framework for advancing managerial competencies;
• Development of students' ability to contribute effectively in a cross-functional, team environment; and
• Opportunities to enhance knowledge by conducting independent investigations into specific management problems.

It introduces the concepts and tools needed for managing the resources of an organisation to achieve efficient production and distribution of goods and services. The organisations involved could be factories, hospitals, the police force, airlines, airports and docks, distribution depots, hotels and restaurants, and so on. Particular subjects deal with quantitative techniques, decision making, quality management, resource planning, information technology and e-commerce.
