About

We offer a master degree in Counseling at The University of Hong Kong. The Faculty of Social Sciences was established in 1967, and has undergone rapid expansion and significant transformation since. The Faculty has six core Departments/Centre: Geography, Politics and Public Administration, Psychology, Social Work and Social Administration, and Sociology, and Journalism and Media Studies Centre. 

Overview

The objectives of the Counselling programme at The University of Hong Kong are to equip students for acting as the first line of help, both at work and in their personal lives, for people in need of support before they develop more severe mental health problems; and to add to the resources of practitioners in human services who find themselves in need of further training in the counselling process.

TOEFL admission requirements TOEFL® IBT The TOEFL iBT® is given online through the internet at designated testing site. The test measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The score refers to the total score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading), each subject has a range of 0 - 30.

General requirements

  • Applicants shall hold a Bachelor's degree of HKU or an equivalent qualification from a comparable institution, and preferably have a minimum of two years of relevant post-qualification working experience. 
  • Candidates with qualifications other than a Bachelor's degree will be considered on their individual merits. Qualifying examinations to test the applicants' abilities to follow the prescribed courses and/or interviews may be conducted.
  • Applicants with qualifications from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching or examination is not English are required, unless exceptionally exempted, to obtain:
