The Master of Science in Community Dentistry at The University of Hong Kong curriculum extends over not less than one year of full-time study, or the equivalent by part-time study, and is designed to enable candidates to achieve an advanced level of knowledge and competence in community dentistry through a prescribed course of study and a supervised research project.

The programme in Community Dentistry offered by The University of Hong Kong involves advanced study and research into the theory and practice of preventive dentistry, oral epidemiology, related behavioural sciences, and systems for the provision of dental health care and their administration. It includes lectures, tutorials, clinical work, project assignments and training in research methods.

Our taught postgraduate programmes which have an esteemed reputation cover 10 subject areas and lead to Masters degrees and professional Advanced Diplomas which build on the Master of Dental Surgery Degrees. The majority of the programmes fulfil the specialist training requirements of the seven dental specialties of the College of Dental Surgeons of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine.

Apart from offering a limited number of self-financing places in each specialty, some government-funded places have been available in 2019-20. Candidates who are interested in studying the MDS degree in different specialties are advised to apply for admissions to the respective curriculum. Candidates who fulfil the eligibility criteria for the government-funded places may be offered the opportunity to take up such places.
