Overview
The Women's Studies program of the An-Najah National University addresses fundamental questions about whether we are born, or become, women and men in a variety of social and cultural context, particularly that of the Arab world. It also explores how we think about differences between genders and the extent to which gender divisions continue to determine social processes and institutions.
The course moreover provides an understanding of the ways in which gender is shaped historically through various forms of cultural representation.The scope of the course is both global and contemporary. The programme draws on material from sociology, anthropology, education, media, psychology, law, Islamic studies, literature, and health sciences.
Teaching and Learning
in this programme use lectures and seminars as their main mode of delivery. Some content is taught directly in the classroom and further investigated in discussions. Students are expected to deepen their understanding by independent reading. Some courses require the practical application of newly acquired knowledge in organizational settings. Some courses include e-learning components.
Career Opportunities
It enhances the opportunities for students with relevant primary degrees, such associology, social work, politics, history, literature and languages, media studies, education, law etc. Graduates have worked in schools, ministries, non-governmental organisations, and the media.

General requirements
- Prospective applicant should have a Bachelor degree from An-Najah National University or its equivalent from a Faculty or university credited by An-Najah National University.
- A Placement Test for the major he/she is applying to.
- Prospective applicant should be willing to meet with the Supervising Committee for a personal interview if the Specialised Department Council recommends that.
- Earning a competitive GPA, is a matter usually determined and computed by the Specialized Department by the following formula: An applicant’s Bachelor’s GPA counts 70% and the applicant’s results on the Skills / Placement Exam and personal interview counts 30%.
- An original or official transcript or copy of certified from both the university from which the applicant graduated and the Palestinian ministry of higher learning.
- A certificate of work experience, if available.
- Two recommendation Letters from faculty members or professionals.
- Personal photo.
