Overview
The Translation - Interpreting in Three Languages program from Birzeit University will (a) introduce students to skills essential for translation work from Arabic (language A) into English/French (language B) and into French/English (Language C); (b) give students practical training in those skills; and (c) introduce students to theoretical issues in translation studies.
The MA is a highly vocational program that aims at training professional translators and conference interpreters.
Our graduates are expected to have excellent employment prospects in small companies and institutions, or chosen to remain as a freelancer, and some may choose to pursue stimulating careers as professional translators and interpreters with major local, regional, or international organizations. In addition, others may opt to pursue an academic career locally, or regionally.
Programme Structure
For the program to be consistent with this vision, it is expected that by it will be able to:
- Train qualified academics to train translators.
- Train translators according to established up-to-date scientific methodology.
- Improve the performance of translators working in the local market to a level that would enable them compete in local, regional and global markets.
- Respond to the need of local universities by qualifying academics in the field of translation.
- Offer a local alternative for scholarships abroad that are very scarce or unattainable in the field of translation.

General requirements
- General Secondary Education Certificate Examination (Tawjihi) score equivalent to or higher than 65 percent.
- Bachelor’s degree, from a university accredited by Birzeit University, in a field required by the program that the applicant wishes to enroll in. All applicants must have earned a “Good” academic standing. Applicants who have an “Acceptable” standing will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the university’s Academic Council based on recommendation by the relevant department, or program committee.
- Two sealed letters of recommendation by faculty members who taught the applicant or two supervisors who oversaw his or her work, or a letter from each.
