Overview

The Interpreting and Translation Studies program at Monash University combines practical internships with rigorous academic foundations to give you both the conceptual skills and industry experience for a successful career.

You’ll be able to articulate and apply knowledge of global best practice, and will be able to implement advanced reading, analytical and communication skills throughout your working life. You’ll also graduate with a thorough understanding of research methodology and the ability to undertake independent research.

Careers and opportunities

As a Monash graduate, you'll be perfectly placed to gain employment as a freelance, contract or in-house interpreter or translator, or as a project manager in either the private or public sector.

Graduates go on to a broad range of occupations such as: Interpreting (conference interpreter, community interpreter, court interpreter); Translating (technical, legal, audio-visual, literary); Localising content (linguistic and cultural adaptation of texts to specific audiences); and Intercultural communication (for business, commercial and policy contexts
