Environmental Geosciences graduates will gain the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge of Earth sciences, specifically in the field of geology, environmental geochemistry (e.g., environmental contamination), environmental hydrogeology and paleoecology (e.g., global climate development).

The programme provides a solid theoretical and practical background in Earth Sciences; students will be able to identify and analyse specifi c environmental issues linked to Earth Sciences; they will work independently in various laboratories at the Faculty and present their results during seminars, field excursions and workshops.

Environmental Geosciences are currently at the forefront of many scientific disciplines and have an important practical outcome as well. The understanding of pollutants’ behaviour in various environmental compartments, remediation of contaminated sites and evolution of ecosystems in the Earth’s history are just a few examples of the topics covered by the programme. The laboratories at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences are equipped with high-end instrumentation for advanced specialized methods used in environmental geochemistry, such as speciation and specialized isotope analyses. These techniques are currently fast emerging and crucial in the developing fields of Environmental Geochemistry and Biogeochemistry.

The graduates can then be employed at many institutions dealing with nature protection and remediation (e.g., remediation companies, governmental agencies, regional authorities, etc.). Selected graduates can also continue their studies and research in a number of doctoral programmes.

Candidates for master's programmes must be graduates of a three-year or longer bachelor study programme at a university, or a recognized equivalent.

The tuition fee (charged in Czech koruna - CZK) is 20 000 CZK (i.e. approx. 800 EUR).


Excellent study result scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to the student on the basis of excellent study results in bachelor's or master's degree programmes and the scholarship eligibility is evaluated every semester. For a study average of less than 1.20, the scholarship is currently CZK 4600/month. For an average of 1.21 to 1.40, the amount is currently set at CZK 230/month. The scholarship is paid for a maximum of 9 months per each academic year. Excellent applicants can even get the scholarship from the beginning of the study. Please note, that the actual amounts and conditions vary in each academic year.

Once you become a CULS student, you are likely entitled to a housing scholarship.
