Overview

During the course, you’ll study evidence-based, flexible and responsive psychotherapeutic approaches to help you support and advocate for and with adults facing psychosocial questions and concerns.  You will develop expertise as an integrative adult psychotherapist, drawing from humanistic, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural, and systemic approaches to psychotherapy to develop your own style as a practitioner and flexibly meet the needs of particular clients.

There are career prospects for counsellors and psychotherapists within the Statutory, Education, Voluntary and Private sectors. Due to the programme’s integrative approach, you will be qualified in a wide range of psychotherapeutic practice approaches with individuals. 

This Psychotherapy degree delivered by Dublin City University training course is designed to continue meeting the ongoing proposed statutory requirements for psychotherapy in Ireland, and is currently accredited by both the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and the National Association for Professional Counselling and Psychotherapy (NAPCP), as well as broadly aligning with current European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP) standards. The field is complex, with new research, theories, and professional expectations emerging all the time, particularly in Ireland with the evolving accreditation and registration processes under CORU (Ireland’s multi-profession health and social care regulatory body).

Alternatively, researchers in qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods research projects are always in demand, and in this course you will complete modules in research methods as well as complete your own original research and corresponding thesis.
