About

The M.Sc. in Stochastics and Data Science at University of Turin is a two-year graduate course that aims at preparing students with a modern education in probabilistic, statistical and computational methods.

Overview

Inspired by the best programs in Data Science recently started in the USA and Europe, this Stochastics and Data Science course at University of Turin brings together the expertise of three Departments of the University of Torino and their research groups in Probability, Statistics and Computer Science, and is currently the only offer of this type in Italy to award a degree in Mathematics.

The Program is entirely taught in English and will provide students with a solid knowledge in key topics of Applied Mathematics, Probability, Statistics and Machine Learning.

These are nowadays essential tools for performing mathematical modelling under uncertainty and for analysing complex, high dimensional datasets with a deep mathematical understanding of the underneath structures.

What are "Stochastics" and "Data Science"?

The Master's Degree in Stochastics and Data Science aims at preparing students with a solid and modern education in probabilistic and statistical methods.

Core topics will be advanced methodologies and techniques that are nowadays required tools for performing mathematical modelling and analysis under uncertainty (Stochastics) and for analysing and being able to interpret high-dimensional and complex data structures (Data Science).

The emphasis of the course topics will be both theoretical and oriented towards computation and applications, providing not a "book of recipes" but the capability of discerning, combining and applying the most useful and modern methods available in Probability and Statistics.

The Master's Degree in Stochastics and Data Science draws inspiration from the best graduate programs in Data Science recently started in the USA and Europe, and is currently the only offer of this type in Italy.

Job Placement

The University's Job Placement Service has been established in order to help its students and new graduated (who held their university degree within 12 months) to enter the labour market. The service operates on two levels: through the Job Placement offices in the individual Schools and Departments and through the central Job Placement office at the Students' Rights office.

As a whole, the Job Placement Service serves an intermediary function, at once helping students in their careers choices and in making preliminary contact with companies and helping companies, public bodies and international institutions to find and choose students and recent graduates. The Schools and Departments Job Placement Offices display employment and internship opportunities on websites (university or other) and notice boards and through presentations given by interested companies.
