Our BA programme in Fine Art at Bergen Academy of Art and Design is aimed at students who wish to become professional artists. The students’ own practice and individual tutoring lie at the heart of the study programme, placing artistic practice in the context of culture and society.

The study programme lays the groundwork for exploratory and experimental approaches. The Department of Fine Art fosters an active relationship with the art scene, which is in a constant state of change and flux. The study programme emphasises critical reflection in relation to art, culture and society. The department collaborates with external partners on the local, regional and international level.

The Department of Fine Art at Bergen Academy of Art and Design has the professional expertise and facilities to allow students to pursue in-depth studies and explore a wide range of artistic practices, media, materials, techniques and expressions. Critical thinking and a conceptual approach are fundamental to our programme. The workshops and laboratories play a central role in our approach to artistic practice, offering professional expertise and individual tutoring. Students receive support in shaping their artistic ideas and intentions. At the same time, they gain knowledge of the importance of materials and media in artistic practice.
