Overview

Neurotechnology is the use of insights and tools from mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and engineering to investigate neural function and treat dysfunction. Brain-related illnesses affect more than two billion people worldwide, and the numbers are growing. Reducing this burden is a major challenge for society.

The Neurotechnology course is a one year full-time programme offered at Imperial which will prepare you for an innovative research career at the interface between neuroscience and engineering, in academia, industry, or elsewhere.

The programme involves lectures and practical work in the first term, followed by full-time work on a research project. Graduates, therefore, gain substantial research experience. A variety of seminars and workshops are also provided to deepen and broaden your skill base.

Careers

The MRes Neurotechnology provides unique training at the interface between neuroscience and engineering, enhancing your skills in research, analysis and scientific presentation and developing your ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
This programme provides a solid foundation in research for those continuing with a neurotechnology career, whether through a PhD or working in industry.

Accreditation

This degree is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) and Institution of Engineering Designers (IED).

General requirements

The minimum requirement is a 2.1 degree in engineering or physical science.
Students from a biological or medical sciences background may be considered if they can demonstrate substantial quantitative skills.
A wide variety of international qualifications are accepted.
All candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of English language proficiency for admission to the College.

An ATAS certificate is required for all visa-nationals, with the exception of EEA/Swiss nationals and nationals of the following countries: Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea and the USA.
To apply for an ATAS certificate online, you will need your programme’s Common Aggregation Hierarchy (CAH) code and ‘descriptor’, as well as your university supervisor name. For this course, these are: CAH10-01-06; bioengineering, medical and biomedical engineering; Professor Anthony Bull.
