The Master of Arts in Interior Design at the NABA Milan campus explores the role of interior spaces in everyday life and how design can respond to changing ways of living and working. Taught in Italian or English, this two-year programme combines creative exploration with the practical skills needed to develop interior design projects for an international professional context.

Through projects led by international professionals, students learn to address both the ideas behind a space and the challenges involved in designing it. An interdisciplinary approach encourages experimentation and cultural exchange, helping students develop their own design methods while understanding each project's possibilities and constraints.

The course awards a Second Level Academic Degree in Design and carries 120 CFA credits.

Accreditation

NABA’s Master of Arts programmes award Second Level Academic Degrees recognised by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR). These qualifications have full legal status and are equivalent to the corresponding university degrees. The academic credits awarded can support progression to further study at academies and universities in Italy and abroad.

Programme Structure

The Master of Arts in Interior Design combines practical workshops with theoretical study, progressing from research and spatial representation to complex interior projects:

Year 1: Students develop research and design methods through interior and furniture design, supported by art and design history. Studies in 3D modeling and rendering explore how spaces can be represented, alongside work on materials and technologies. Brand design and workshops broaden their understanding of the relationships between people, spaces and objects.
Year 2: Advanced work in exhibition and lighting design, alongside project culture, strengthens students’ ability to design complex public spaces. Design management and art direction support the process from initial concept to detailed design, including how projects are presented at each stage. Interdisciplinary workshops help students develop an approach suited to professional practice.

General requirements

To apply for a NABA Master of Arts, you need a bachelor’s degree or first-level academic diploma and must meet the course’s entry requirements. We may consider other backgrounds if your motivation and research interests are strong.

Complete the application form, pay the fee, and submit:

Your CV and motivation letter
A copy of your passport’s photo page
Your degree certificate and full academic transcripts in English
A project portfolio (optional for Social Design)
Proof of Italian at CEFR B1 or English at IELTS 5.0 or an accepted equivalent

The language certificate must be submitted within one month before the beginning of the programme and should not be older than 2 years. Native speakers are exempt; an English-taught high school diploma also qualifies, subject to verification by the Admissions Office.

Non-EU applicants needing a study visa must complete UniversItaly pre-enrolment and the relevant consular procedures.
