By studying the Political Science MSc programme at Leiden University , you will benefit from an advanced grounding in the fundamentals of political analysis and advanced training in essential academic and professional skills. There are six specialisations and two cities from which to choose.

Career prospects

This specialisation prepares you to combine the insights and rigour of social science with the practical skills needed to make a difference in the world of foreign policy formation, implementation, and evaluation.

You acquire the advanced substantive and theoretical knowledge, as well as practical skills, necessary for a successful career in a vast range of professions. With a master’s diploma you can also opt for a more advanced PhD-level training in Political Science.

General requirements

  • a bachelor’s degree in Political Science (from a recognised university)
  • a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
Qualitative admission requirements
  • good academic record as evidenced by a grade point average of 7 in the Dutch system (or equivalent) and/or other indicators (such as relevant extracurricular activities or honours programme);
  • at least 80 ECTS in Political Science or political science relevant subjects
  • competency in Social Science Research Methodology, demonstrated by coursework
  • two letters of reference (except for BSc Political Science students of Leiden University), curriculum vitae and a motivation letter;
  • sufficient proficiency in the English language, as described below.
