Overview

We study the brain and artificial neural networks through the lens of mathematical modeling and physics. This 2-year masters, unique in Europe, provides a rigorous theoretical foundation in neural systems using methods from experimental physics, machine learning, and computational modelling. Advances in network theory, illustrated by recent physics Nobel Prizes, and brain imaging technologies are expanding research opportunities in this developing field. Apart from fundamental knowledge of the brain, the Neurophysics specialisation also provides you with a general background in the principles of complex systems, and of intelligent behaviour of living and artificial systems.

Future career opportunities

This specialisation is an excellent preparation for a future research career in neuroscience, data science, and physics. In addition to the strong quantitative background expected from a physicist, you will acquire the ability to grasp and analyse complex multidisciplinary problems, typical of contemporary technological environments. You will also learn the communication skills necessary to work in teams, including people with diverse specialisations.
