Description
The Sanctuary Scholarship is designed for students who are asylum seekers or have been granted Discretionary Leave to Remain or another form of temporary leave following an asylum or human rights application.
Recipients also become members of UniCares, a dedicated support programme offering academic, financial, and wellbeing assistance throughout their studies. Up to three undergraduate scholarships are awarded each year.
Benefits
Full tuition fee waiver.
Maintenance grant equivalent to the full Student Finance England maintenance loan.
£3,500 bursary for living expenses.
Total award value of £17,635 for the 2026/27 academic year.
Membership of the UniCares support programme.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be an asylum seeker or have Discretionary Leave to Remain or another eligible temporary immigration status resulting from an asylum or human rights application.
- Be ineligible for UK student finance because of their immigration status.
- Hold a conditional or unconditional offer for a full-time undergraduate programme at City St George's, applied for through UCAS.
- Be starting the first year of an undergraduate degree.
- Have a supporting reference from a school, college, community, or voluntary organisation.
- Not already hold a UK or overseas undergraduate or postgraduate degree.
- Have the legal right to study in the UK.
- Note that Medicine (MBBS) is not eligible for the 2026/27 intake.
