The British-Luxembourg Society (BLS), working together with the Luxembourg Society in the UK, is proud to announce the establishment of a new educational awards programme designed to promote enduring links and deepen ties between the United Kingdom and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Description

The educational award programme aims to strengthen cultural ties through academic pursuits and artistic endeavours. Up to four awards will be granted annually, with two awards designated for UK residents studying in Luxembourg (H.R.H. the Grand Duke Jean Award) and two for Luxembourg residents studying in the UK. The BLS is currently working to secure an appropriate name for the award designated for Luxembourg residents studying in the UK to start in 2026.

Benefits

Each award will initially be worth 1,000 Euros.

Eligibility

  • Those eligible must be UK residents
  • Applicants must have a confirmed place at an accredited educational institution in Luxembourg at the time of the award
  • Applicants must demonstrate how the award will benefit them, strengthen links between the two countries, and showcase their potential as effective ambassadors.
  • Recipients will be required to submit a report upon completion of their award documenting their experiences and achievements. This will be published on the BLS website in whole or in part.

Applicants must provide (in English) a CV, information as to residence, and a cover letter including the name of two referees. Applicants must check that their referees are happy to provide a reference and that this will comment substantively on the qualities sought. It is the applicants’ responsibility to ensure that referees can meet these criteria, as references that only confirm dates of employment may be discounted. Guidance for referees is available by email. 

The panel will look for individuals who can demonstrate:

  • Motivation and commitment to the chosen short course or postgraduate studies (“course”)
  • Intellectual ability, or relevant technical or artistic skills (as appropriate)
  • Inter-personal skills
  • How the award would benefit the applicant’s career progression
  • Integrity
  • That the applicant would be an excellent ambassador of the BLS
