Thousands of international students enrol in Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Slovenian universities every year. If you want to join them, these are the main steps of the university application process in Slovenia:
1. Find a Slovenian university to apply to
Here are some of the top-ranked universities in Slovenia:
2. Learn where to submit your university application
Slovenia uses a centralised system, the eVŠ Online Portal, which allows all students to apply at public or private universities. As a prospective student, it is your duty to check if you meet the admission requirements before submitting an application.
After completing this step, you need to send all the other documents (e.g. copies of ID, translation of diplomas) by post. You can learn more about how the application is processed, how to view the results, and more on the official Study in Slovenia website.
3. Meet the university entry requirements
Slovenian universities usually ask for the same documents you’d expect from similar academic institutions:
- filled-in application form
- proof of paying the application fee (if applicable)
- high school diploma (to apply for a Bachelor’s)
- Bachelor’s diploma (to apply for a Master’s)
- transcript of records
- passport-sized photo(s)
- copy of valid passport and/or personal ID
- motivation letter
4. Find out about the language requirements
To enrol in one of the English-taught programmes, you need to prove a minimum level of English language skills. The most widely accepted tests are:
- IELTS Academic
- PTE Academic
- TOEFL iBT

5. Apply before the application deadlines
In Slovenia, the academic year starts in October and ends in September the following year. The university application period usually opens in February-March and closes in August-September.
However, not all study programmes follow this timeframe. Some have shorter or longer application windows, which is why you should check out the official deadlines early on.
6. Final steps after receiving your acceptance letter
- confirm your enrolment after receiving the acceptance letter/university offer
- if you’re not from the EU/EEA, apply for a student visa in Slovenia
- apply for medical insurance
- search for scholarships and grants — there are over 15,000 available. You can also apply for our Studyportals Scholarship: International Distinction Awards.
