Tuition Fees and Living Costs in Luxembourg for 2024

With a high living standard, top-ranked universities, and friendly multicultural environment, it’s hardly surprising that many international students choose Luxembourg for their education. Some even end up staying there, and who can blame them? The minimum wage is around 2,000 EUR per month!

But before reaching that stage, you need to study and live in Luxembourg for a while. So, what are the average tuition fees at universities in Luxembourg and what are living costs like?

Let’s find out!

1. University tuition fees in Luxembourg

Tuition fees at public universities

The University of Luxembourg is the only public higher education institution in this small European country, which means it is also the most affordable university. Most Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes cost between 0 and 5,200 EUR per academic year.

If you apply for more specialised courses, like the Master’s in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, you will pay 24,000 EUR per academic year.

Tuition fees at private universities

At private universities, tuition costs are usually much higher. Out of the 5 private education institutions, we’ll take the Sacred Heart University Luxembourg as an example. Tuition ranges between 29,000 and 39,000 EUR for a full study programme (all years of study).

The University of Luxembourg and the Sacred Heart University Luxembourg are the top-ranked universities in this country. During your application, check what tuition applies to you; non-EU citizens might have to pay more than EU/EEA citizens.

2. Student living costs in Luxembourg

While you will enjoy the high standard of living in Luxembourg, you should know it doesn’t come cheap. As a student, you will spend between 700 and 1,500 EUR every month to cover your living costs.

Luxembourg is part of the European Union, so the national currency is the euro (EUR). If you come from another European country that has the same currency, you won’t have to bother converting your money or getting used to different coins and banknotes.

3. Student accommodation costs

There are two main types of accommodation available to international students:

  • university dormitories: the cheapest option, with prices ranging between 350 and 400 EUR/month. The costs of utilities are included.
  • renting a private flat: depending on the type of apartment and area, expect to pay anywhere between 600 and 1,000 EUR/month. You can lower expenses by sharing a 2 or 3-bedroom apartment with other students. The full cost of monthly utilities is around 180–250 EUR.
