Study in Norway Student Experience: Gabriel’s Journey from Brazil to a Master’s in Marketing at NHH

When Gabriel from Brazil started looking for a Master’s abroad, he never imagined he’d end up studying for free at one of Norway’s top business schools — surrounded by mountains, the sea, and a community of students from all over the world.

What you’ll learn from Gabriel’s story

  • Choosing where to study abroad can feel overwhelming, but Gabriel from Brazil found his perfect fit at the Norwegian School of Economics in Bergen.
  • His search for a high-quality, English-taught Master’s at an affordable cost led him to Norway, where he discovered a world-class education, breathtaking nature, and a welcoming international community.
  • His story shows how good research — and the right tools — can open doors to study opportunities you didn’t know existed.

Finding the right Master’s degree abroad

“When I started searching for Master’s programmes, I knew what I wanted — Marketing, full-time, taught in English, and at a top university for a reasonable price,” says Gabriel Peixoto, a 24-year-old from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. “It seemed impossible to find a programme with all these characteristics, but after setting some filters on Studyportals, I discovered some very good universities.”

That’s how Gabriel found the MSc in Economics and Business Administration at the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) — one of Norway’s most respected business schools, offering six English-taught specialisations, including Marketing and Brand Management, his chosen field.

Why Norway felt like the right choice

After an exchange year in Paris during his Bachelor’s studies, Gabriel knew he wanted to study abroad again. “It was one of the best experiences of my life,” he recalls. “So, after my Bachelor’s, I decided to pursue an international programme again.”

He was drawn to Norway for its reputation for academic excellence and inclusivity. “NHH is recognised as the leading business school in Norway, where some CEOs and even Nobel Prize winners have studied,” he says. “The best part is that Master’s programmes here are completely free — no tuition fees for international students.”

Living and studying in Bergen as an international student

Bergen, Norway’s second-largest city, became Gabriel’s new home. “It’s a very charming and lovely place,” he says. “The student life is active, with many international students. And nature here is incredible — the city lies between the mountains and the sea.”

For Gabriel, the combination of nature, community, and academic challenge made Bergen the perfect place to grow both personally and professionally.

Applying to NHH: planning ahead

Getting accepted required preparation and dedication. “The admission process needed some planning,” Gabriel explains. “I had to take the TOEFL and GMAT, and also send recommendation and motivation letters, along with my Bachelor’s transcripts.”

He advises other students to keep their options open. “It’s ideal to apply for more than one university, but I was lucky to be accepted by my first choice.”

Looking back: advice for future students

Now settled into his Master’s in Marketing and Brand Management, Gabriel has no doubts about his decision. “I highly recommend NHH for anyone looking for high-quality study programmes,” he says. “International experience is something very valuable, so start browsing the different study options and choose your next destination. Good luck!”
