Sinds 1890 zet het Leids Universiteits Fonds zich in om de kwaliteit van het onderzoek en onderwijs hoog te houden en te verbeteren. Zo verstrekken wij subsidies aan projecten van faculteiten en wetenschappers en financieren wij bijzondere leerstoelen. Maar ook studenten doen een beroep op het LUF voor activiteiten die hun studie meerwaarde geven. Daarnaast is het LUF actief om oud-studenten betrokken te houden bij de universiteit.
Donaties, schenkingen en de opbrengst van ons vermogen geven ons de ruimte om de universiteit te ondersteunen en de kwaliteit van het onderwijs en onderzoek te bevorderen. Dit alles wordt mogelijk gemaakt door de betrokkenheid van alumni.
Het LUF organiseert verschillende activiteiten voor alumni. Ook beheren we de alumni-databank van de Universiteit Leiden waarin de gegevens van ruim 77.000 alumni staan.
