Research
DKFZ is the largest biomedical research institute in Germany and a member of the Helmholtz Association of National Research Centers. In over 90 divisions and research groups, our more than 2,700 employees, of which more than 1,200 are scientists, are investigating the mechanisms of cancer, are identifying cancer risk factors and are trying to find strategies to prevent people from getting cancer.They are developing novel approaches to make tumor diagnosis more precise and treatment of cancer patients more successful.

Heidelberg offers a wide range of hotels in different prize categories

The Crowne Plaza Heidelberg is a 4-star Superior Hotel and is located in the center of the historical city of Heidelberg. All tourist attractions, including the old part of Heidelberg and the shopping area are within walking distance.

The Ibis Hotel is conveniently located at the main train station. The DKFZ can easily be reached with public transport or by foot (walking distance about 15 min).
Library services
Major Tasks of the Central Library:
- Providing scientific literature and information needed by the scientists of the German Cancer Research Center
- Main areas of collection are: Tumor Biology, Mechanisms of Cancer Genesis, Carcinogenic Factors, Cancer Prevention, Research on Diagnostics and Therapy as well as other special subjects needed by our scientists.
Campus life
As the German Cancer Research Center is located only about 1.5 km from the Central Station, one may even walk (15-20 minutes). Upon exiting central station, head north and cross the „Kurfürsten-Anlage“ (large 4-lane-street). Walk north along the „Mittermaierstrasse“ crossing the Neckar River. Right after the bridge, make a left into „Jahnstrasse“. Follow that street until you reach the gate on the left. Pass the gate and walk into „Kirschnerstrasse“. About 100 meters down the road you will see the DKFZ main entrance to your right.
