History
UCN and the other university colleges were formed as a result of the Danish Act on university colleges of higher education, which was adopted by the Danish parliament in 2007. Today the sector consists of seven university colleges and two schools of engineering.
Education
We are a university of applied sciences and provide higher education and perform research, development and innovation activities within the four main areas of business, social education, health and technology.
Research
UCN performs research into real life challenges. We have research programmes that comprise our many research projects.
We perform research into profession development and the linkages between how teachers teach and the learning outcomes of their pupils. We perform research into welfare technology and how technology can provide an increase in the quality of the Danish health care system.
We conduct research within new technologies and markets and how social relations and values are transformed into sustainable solutions.

Housing services
Denmark does not have a tradition for on-campus housing as they do in other parts of the world. UCN will do its best to help international students get ready for their stay in Aalborg. However, all incoming students are required to find their own.
We have learned that if e.g. 2 students register and apply together at AKU, then it is easier to receive an offer for 2 people sharing a flat. So this is something that you can think about and try to find another student with whom you can share a flat. Students should expect to pay a deposit for renting a place, which they will get back at the end of renting provided that the place has been kept in good condition.
Library services
The primary function of the UCN Library is to provide students, teachers and other staff at UCN with high quality information and knowledge through user-friendly systems, guidance and training. We cover the following professions: education & social, health, business and technology.

Denmark is located in Northern Europe and is a small country in Scandinavia with one of the world’s oldest monarchies. Denmark has a rich history that stretches back to the Viking Age around the year 1000. Denmark has 406 islands and the highest point in the country is only 170 metres above sea level. No place in Denmark is more than 50 km from the sea.
Student clubs
Student Forum UCN is a council for students at UCN and was formed on requests for more student involvement and influence on UCN. We are seeing the organisation becoming more uniform, and this means that many decisions have an impact across study programmes and campuses, which is why we, the students, should have a common voice within the organisation.
That is why Student Forum UCN will champion the students' interests by exercising its influence on decision-making processes in UCN's governing bodies and act as the link between the students and the Rectorate.
Accreditation
Accreditation is a method for external quality assurance. The Danish Accreditation Act (of July 2013) introduced institutional accreditation, which involves an assessment of an educational institution’s overall quality assurance system carried out by the Danish Accreditation Institution. At this moment, UCN is in the process of institutional accreditation, which is expected to be completed in the spring of 2019.
