Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1996 to promote economic, political and social development of the area.In 2001 it changed its status from a regional governmental institution to a state educational institution. Later in 2004 it introduced two master's degree study programmes. In October 2013 it received the Green Flag award, becoming the first institution of higher education in the Baltic states to hold international Eco university status. In February 2014, the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics, Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, and Faculty of Social Sciences were merged into one faculty.
Currently Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences participates in two student exchange programmes: Erasmus and Nordplus Exchange and visiting students can also apply for a Latvian Government scholarship for a study or research period in Latvia. Since 1999 it also organizes a traditional summer programme called The Baltic International Summer School where foreign students get educated about issues concerning the Baltics.

Information technologies bachelor study program graduates are able to adapt to changing working conditions, follow market demand, development trends and technological changes, understand the industry processes and their impact on society.
During the studies, the students acquire an extensive basis of technical knowledge, which gives them the professional knowledge and skills required by the industry. As well as that, the studies offer an insight into user experience (UX), artificial intelligence (AI) - machine learning (ML) and computer vision (CV), cloud computing, virtual (VR) and augmented (AR) reality and data analysis.

There is international office:
Exchange students are offered accommodation in the student hostel on Ausekla street 25a. As soon as your application form is received and approved, International Office will make a room reservation for you. All international students are guaranteed a place in a student hostel.
Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences offers only double rooms for its students (two students share 1 room). All rooms are fully furnished. A bathroom and toilet is shared between four students (two rooms). Several rooms share one kitchen equipped with cooking facilities. Most students prepare their own food in the kitchens at the student hostels; this will be slightly cheaper than buying your food at cafeterias and cantinas in Valmiera. If you prefer to cook for yourself, you can use the kitchens, however, the utensils for kitchens are not provided. These can be bought cheaply in the local stores. Bed linen is provided by the university and changed every two weeks. Exchange students live together with the local students and usually also share a room with a local student.
There is local hospital in the city and also various health centers.
Both Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences faculties are located in Valmiera city center.
Near to the faculties are also cafes, supermarkets, a library, a cinema, a theater, hairdresser etc.

Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences have professionl basketball team Valmiera glass/Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, Professional football team Valmiera glass/Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, hockey team Valmiera, professional floorball club “Valmiera”, youth choir “Skan”, various folk dance groups, Vidzeme University of Applied student union and many, many more.
Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences is accredited for an indefinite period of time.Depending on the study program, the duration of accreditation may vary, for example, Information technologies study direction accredited until december 31, 2022.
My university is pretty small. Only around 800 people are studying there full time, but it give us- students the ability to communicate with our lecturers on a daily basis. Its really easy to connect with them. Also my school is very open and positive towards internships in different countries. I really value the fact that our lecturers ar proffesionals in their fields...
They give us a great workshops and experience about the field, great laboratory facilities thatsl can be helpful for a student
