Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1996 and in 2001 acquired the status of a state university. In 2002, it was accredited for an indefinite period.

Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences offers only double rooms for its students (two students share 1 room). All rooms are fully furnished. A bathroom and toilet is shared between four students (two rooms). Several rooms share one kitchen equipped with a fridge and cooking facilities.
Most students prepare their own food in the kitchens at the student hostels; this will be slightly cheaper than buying your food at cafeterias and canatines in Valmiera. If you prefer to cook for yourself, you can use the kitchens, however, the utensils for kitchens are not provided.
For non-serious illness and to by medicines you can ask a pharmacist in the pharmacies in the city.
If you have a medical problem, you can get in touch with Valmiera Hospital or one of the many private physicians working in the city
The environmental or Green Activities in Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences ensure that ViA students live and work in an environmentally friendly way – sort waste in student hostels, save water, electricity, spend time in nature and clean it up. The people involved in the Green Activities want students, lecturers and other staff at the university to learn about the problems of nature and how they are dealt with in the world and here in Latvia, and what each of us can do to help maintain a clean environment around us.
Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences Student Union is a platform that respects and fully represents the interests and rights of students of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences in academic, material and cultural matters not only at the university, but also in other state institutions. The Union seeks to create a favourable environment for the growth and well-being of students.
There is nothing much that I would like to say about my study experience, in general it was useful, but there was enough of blind spots that I had to learn by myself.
The best thing about my university was a lot of practical experience not only theoretical. For example, my course had outdoor life practice and field trips where all the students was divided in groups and each group had tasks which included a plenty of organization - planning the trip, activities during the trip, time management, interesting information and so on.
