Neu Ulm University of Applied Sciences

Our students learn at a place where people reach out to and do not shun each other. The latter is often the case at large universities. We're different. We offer students seminars with a moderate number of participants and intensive support: The lecturers and students get to know each other during their course of study. Our mission – closeness and partnership – is a reality.

About

History

Since it was founded in 1994, the Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) has evolved into an indispensable educational establishment in the Neu-Ulm/Ulm region. We now have more than 3,800 students in our three departments of Health Management, Information Management, and Business and Economics and our Centre for Professional and Postgraduate Studies.

Education

At the HNU we educate experts and managers who are equipped to act responsibly and think in a solution oriented way, we also encourage them to participate in foreign exchanges in order to expand their horizons. Students acquire practical knowledge in our BA and MA degree programmes. We offer some degree programmes in cooperation with the Ulm University of Applied Sciences.  Our range of postgraduate degree programmes is aimed at enterprises and junior executives among health professionals, engineers and IT experts, as well as all other working professionals who need business management know-how for their vocation.

Research

As a University of Applied Sciences, we strive to intensify dialogue between business and science and to promote application-focused research.

Working with business enterprises and with private and public research institutions, we set out on a systematic scientific search for knowledge. In this, the focus is on research and development collaboration aimed at applications geared to business and social needs.

Working together with enterprises provides impetus from actual practice, some of which directly results in new training content and structures at the university of applied sciences. This means that our students gain their qualifications on the basis of the very latest scientific findings.

Career

The Career Service of the Alumni & CampusClub keeps close contact with companies and former students of the HNU. Using this network we can offer excellent support in searching for internships or a job.

Students can use our board for jobs and internships to explore the current offers and select them according to different parameters.

Businesses can place advertisements free of charge and recruit future employees for their company.

Services

Student services

The International Office offers for everyone at the Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) comprehensive support when planning to do an international exchange. Furthermore we assist international students, academic staff and administrative staff who are interested in partcipating in a exchange programme at the HNU.

Housing services

Student dormitories are amongst the most inexpensive accommodation options. There are different dormitories in Ulm and Neu-Ulm, some of them are operated by public institutions, some commercially. Prices for accommodation vary according to location, size (single room or flat) and existing furniture and/or joint facilities.

As a rule regarding the dormitories run by public institutions, students can stay in the dormitories for up to six semesters. Deposits must be made; currently they usually amount to € 300. It is advisable to look for a room in good time since rooms are assigned in the order of incoming applications. There are long waiting lists, especially during the semester.

Library services

The HNU library is your partner in academics, for both HNU members and citizens in the Ulm/Neu-Ulm area. We offer consulting, practical workshops, modern learning areas – and of course a broad selection of information media on:

  • economic sciences
  • law
  • information systems
  • languages

ICT services

The HNU IT-Services (RZ) with its many services is available to all members of the HNU as a central facility. This facility also functions as an academic institution where innovative concepts of IT operation are evaluated and become operative. In order to foster this, there is a cooperation with external partners from regional businesses.

Medical services

The HNU takes care of the safety of its students and members on the campus. The First Aid and Fire Prevention at HNU safety measures are key here. Nevertheless, the cooperation of all staff and students is vital to ensure the best possible conditions for working and studying at HNU.

Student Life

Campus life

It is you who make our campus international! We want all of our students and staff to be able to experience the diversity of our university of applied sciences for themselves. This is why we would like to invite you to participate.

Every semester you have the possibility to learn a new language. You can meet with language tandem partners from all over the world and improve your language knowledge with them. Our accommodation service assists you in rooming together with incoming students of the HNU or to sublet your room if you want to go abroad for an internship or exchange.

Sports facilities

In addition to the university sports programme, the sports unit offers a number of selected sports events, such as skiing and snowboarding trips to the nearby Alps and two-day sailing courses on Starnberg Lake. In collaboration with Illerrieden e.V. golf club, which boasts possibly the most beautiful golf course in the region, it also offers a golfing course for small groups. Further activities are also in the pipeline, including a rock-climbing course. The HNU has been a partner of top athletes since the beginning of 2005. This means that you receive special, personalised support during the whole of your degree programme if you are a top athlete at the national or international level.

Student clubs

The Students' Union consists of elected members from the student body and volunteers who work within the various academic departments.

The elected members of the Students' Union represent your interests to the HNU and various committees. We have a choice on the distribution of student fees or have the right to vote on the appointment of new professors. In addition, we try to work with the various departments to enhance your student life through numerous events and activities.

Student Reviews

One of he dormitory that university recomends is not in good conditions. International office is kind and helpful, but some teachers arenït. They are pretty german-oriented (local students tend to be lazy to speak in English, or be open with international students)

Totally satisfied with German teaching methods. I see quite differences regarding to Czech or Greek education. Mostly proffesors only lead the way of topic and students (locals and internationals together) discuss. Also we are learning things which you really use in your life and which are actual. Also we are writing lots of case studies and essays and making...
