About

History

SeAMK was founded in 1992 through a merger of various institutes, each of which had a history of up to more than 100 years.

Education

SeAMK provides education aiming at high-level professional qualification in the following fields:

  • Culture
  • Social sciences, Business and Administration
  • Technology, Communication and Transport
  • Natural Resources and the Environment
  • Social services, Health and Sports
  • Tourism, Catering and Domestic Services

Research

The RDI (research, development and innovation) activities of SeAMK are focused on multidisciplinary core expertise areas, which are congruent with the strategic focal areas of the University Consortium of South Ostrobothnia. The aim of the RDI activities is to support business operations requiring high-level expertise. The volume of annual outside research financing is about 5 million euros. Every year, more than 90 people contribute to the RDI activities of SeAMK.

Services

Student services

The Student Services of SeAMK handles issues pertaining to student applications and selection, financial aid, student study rights and studying in general, as well as counselling and consultation pertaining to student affairs administration.

Housing services

  • Each year the Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences (SeAMK) hosts about 200 international degree students and approximately 300 exchange students.
  • The best way to arrive in Seinäjoki is to fly to Helsinki and then take a train to Seinäjoki. The quickest train connection from Helsinki Airport to Seinäjoki takes about 2 h 30 min. A tutor student will meet the arriving students at Seinäjoki railway station according to timetables informed beforehand.
  • More detailed information and orientation materials will be shared with all new international students once they arrive in SeAMK.

Library services

Library and Information Services Degree Programme has been taught in Seinäjoki University over twenty years. Programme does close co-operation with other units such as business and culture studies. Annual intake is 20 students providing excellent opportunity for individual support. The students and lecturers of LIS studies form an active, inquisitive and flexible group in Seinäjoki UAS.

Medical services

Upper secondary schools and the units of the vocational education centre Sedu and Seamk fall under the area of student health care.This is form of health care. If needed, the student is guided to further testing or treatment and rehabilitation. In student health care, illnesses and troubles obstructing the ability to study are treated, and first aid for sudden illness and accidents is given.

Student Life

Campus life

SeAMK has two campuses: Frami Campus in Seinäjoki which is the main campus and Ilmajoki Campus in Ilmajoki. Frami Campus is located right next to Seinäjoki city center. 

The School of Business and Culture offers education, research and development in the Frami campus in the fields of Business, Entrepreneurship, Cultural Management, Design and Library and Information Services.

The School of Food and Agriculture offers education in Agriculture in Ilmajoki campus and the following in the Frami campus area in Seinäjoki: Hospitality Management and Food Processing and Biotechnology.

Student clubs

The student union of Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences (SAMO) is an association established and run by the students. The union’s diverse objectives range from monitoring the standard of instruction and networking with the Finnish Government to organizing student parties and other leisure time activities. A special social programme is available for international students organised together with the staff of international office and the different schools of SeAMK.

Nice campus - Teachers are really friendly however the quality of the lectures to me were average, some course are really interesting and worth to study.
