History
The Städelschule dates back to an endowment made by the Frankfurt citizen Johann Friedrich Städel. His testament stated, that his extensive art collection and estate were to be the foundation upon which the Städel Institute of Art was established.
Education
The Städelschule offers programs in fine art, architecture and curatorial studies. Courses conducted by the Institute of Art Criticism are attended by all students.
The Städelschule is a permanent experiment for the school’s faculty. It values education in dialogue and diversity, that challenges students and confronts them with the unexpected. Its teaching staff of distinguished artists, architects and cultural theorists currently include Johan Bettum, Daniel Birnbaum, Isabelle Graw, Judith Hopf, Hassan Khan, Philippe Pirotte, Tobias Rehberger, Willem de Rooij and Haegue Yang.

Student services
The orientation week takes place once a year at the beginning of the winter semester. During these days, newly enrolled students can attain information about visa, health insurance, partake in excursions, cooking events and much more, in order to get to know the academy, the city of Frankfurt and fellow students.
Library services
The collection in the Städelschule library is aligned with the range of courses on offer and the main focuses of individual classes. It comprises international publications in fine art, sculpture, painting, film and photography as well as monographs by contemporary artists and exhibition catalogues. It also has an extensive selection of books on architecture.
ICT services
The computer room is open to anyone associated with the Städelschule. You can enter at any time with a valid entry card.
