History
Established in the year 2001, named after Meenakshi Hegde, wife of the Founder of Nitte Education Trust, Justice K.S. Hegde, NMIT is affiliated to VTU Belagavi and one of the youngest Engineering colleges in the Country to be conferred the prestigious Autonomous Status by the UGC in the year 2007 itself.
Research
Emphasizing strong focus on research, leading to benefits for the common man and society at large, resulting in the improvement of living standards, NMIT houses 11 ‘Centers of Excellence’ (CoE), in Design and Development of Small Satellites, Robotics, Nano Materials & MEMS, Design Engineering and Process Simulation, Aerospace Engineering and IoT, Power Engineering, Quantum Computing, Cyber Security, Women Empowerment, Additive Manufacturing and Centre on Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning, attracting young research talents from all over the country and abroad.

A good Impression
My university provided a robust and enriching environment for learning and personal growth in the field of Information Technology (IT). The faculty were highly knowledgeable and supportive, offering a blend of theoretical insights and practical applications that prepared me well for professional challenges. Moreover, the university's emphasis on hands-on projects and collaborative learning allowed me to apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The campus facilities were modern and conducive to learning, providing access to the latest technologies and resources necessary for academic success. Overall, my experience at Government Post Graduate College, Jhelum was instrumental in shaping my academic and professional journey in IT, equipping me with the skills and confidence to pursue my career goals effectively.

Housing services
NMIT provides On-campus Hostels for about 1000 boys and 500 girls. There are four hostels for boys and two for girls. Twin and triple sharing rooms are available. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals are available for students.
Library services
The library is dedicated to creating a supportive and resourceful environment, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, to support learning, research, and innovation for all its users.
ICT services
Robust and scalable IT Infrastructure with 1800+ computers
Medical services
To address student health care, NMIT has a Medical Centre, which is staffed by a full-time nurse. A doctor visits the Medical Centre twice a week. NMIT has a MoU with Ramaiah Memorial Hospital and Aveksha Hospital for further medical services.
Sports facilities
The college has hosted and organized many sporting events such as the:
- VTU North Zone Basketball (M)
- Badminton (M&W) Bangalore North Zone
- Coaching camp for VTU Men Volleyball Team
Accreditation
Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology is accredited with NBA (Tier-1) and NAAC ‘A+’ Grade and Platinum Grade by AICTE-CII apart from figuring in 101-150 Rank Band in India among technical institutions Ranking by the NIRF, Ministry of Education, Government of India in the year 2024.
