University of Applied Sciences Wedel

History

The Physical-Technical Institute (in German: PTL) was founded in Lübeck in 1948 as the predecessor of today's university. She grew quickly and moved to Wedel in 1963. Six years later, the University of Applied Sciences Wedel was founded. The first training courses in computer science were introduced as early as 1968. The private school PTL Wedel has remained as a partner institution to this day.

Education

In today's working world, knowing just one specialist area is no longer enough. This can be seen in digitalizing, changing processes and products.
We teach our students mainly interdisciplinary courses in computer science, technology and economics, always focusing on the interfaces between these topics. Our business administration students learn how to think like programmers; our engineers learn which technical solutions are economical and our IT specialists must understand business processes and technical systems. The links between specialist disciplines are becoming more diverse, closer, and more indispensable. Our goal is to pick up on developments at an early stage with suitable courses.

Research

As a University of Applied Sciences, we are also an important part of the German scientific and research landscape. Of course, the practical and company-oriented training of our students is our top priority. Nevertheless, we are also active in applied research and development. Most topics are application-related and are based on concrete problems from practice. Therefore, the university also cooperates in research and development with well-known companies from the respective industry, which in turn regularly involve our students in their projects.

Career

Germany is one of the most export-oriented countries in the world, especially in areas that require IT engineering. Hosting Europe's second-largest seaport and several global players such as Airbus, Hapag-Lloyd, Philips and Lufthansa, the Hamburg metropolitan region offers excellent job opportunities in an international environment, including for young professionals.
Engineers with dedicated IT skills are in high demand in the automotive, aerospace, medical, automation and many other areas of technological production. Graduates will be able to choose whether they want to work in the production of large technological objects such as sea vessels, or small devices such as mobile phones.
