National Formosa University

National Formosa University was founded in 1980 as “Provincial Yunlin Institute of Technology” by the Taiwan provincial government. Dr. Tien-Chin Chang was appointed as its first president. Five departments were established: Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical and Materials Engineering, Mechanical Design, Power Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering.

NFU emphasizes educational research that is integrated with industrial development. The promotion of excellence is an important area of research in the incubation center. 

The establishment of interdisciplinary laboratories that integrate microelectronic systems, precision machine tools, materials and green energy, aeronautics and electronic technology, energy science and technology, creative technology, and e-business technology. 

To provide faculty and students with a learning platform that is multi-disciplinary, inter-departmental, and international.

Introduce a standardized commendation policy for research and study by encouraging publications and participation in international councils. 

According to the Taiwan Assessment and Evaluation Association, NFU has an outstanding record in publications with regard to mechanical engineering and materials science and technology. We also have significant involvement in National Science Council programs and Industry-Academy cooperation programs. 

Both are sponsored by the Ministry of Education. Furthermore, we proposed so many Industry-Academy cooperation programs to the Ministry of Education in 2007, that we won the award for the highest quantity of proposed programs.
