History
The Federal University of Itajubá (UNIFEI) was founded in November 23, 1913, as theElectrotechnical and Mechanical Institute of Itajubá (Instituto Eletrotécnico e Mecânico deItajubá – IEMI) by the personal endeavor of lawyer Theodomiro Carneiro Santiago.

Great infrastructure and low cost of living
UNIFEI has one of the best infrastructure in the country when talking about public university. Besides that, the students organizes a lot of projects for people to join in, usually there is at least one (usually two or three) made by people of your programme. Also, the city is a very cheap one to live in, so the university is free and the cost of living tends to be low, which helps the university to stay diverse.

Itabira campus is located near Belo Horizonte, the Capital of Minas Gerais State has around 120 thousandinhabitants. Itabira also hosts the Vale Company, the largest producer of iron ore and nickelin the world.
