Saint-Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI" was founded in 1886 as Engineering College of the Department of Post and Telegraph of Russia. In 1891 it was reorganized into Imperial Institute of Electrical Engineering, the first higher education institution in Europe for training engineers in the field of Electrical Engineering. In 1992 it became the Electrotechnical University.
LETI provides a wide range of majors and courses. University offers educational programs in radio engineering, telecommunications, electrical engineering, electronics, information technology, solid-state physics, and material science along with ones in humanities, economics, and management.
The top research fields of the university are radio engineering, electrical engineering, electronics and computer science. With over 135 years of successful experience in tertiary education, LETI is the oldest electrical engineering university in Europe.

There are 7 LETI dormitories which are all located close to the metro stations. Our dormitories are well-equipped, safe and comfortable to live in. There are cozy rooms, fitted kitchen, showers, sport rooms, gym and elevators in every hall of residence.
SPbETU library was founded in 1886 simultaneously with the foundation of Institute. A big part of the library collection was Emperor Alexander's III gift. Today ETU library consists of 8 units, 5 reading halls, 5 loan departments. The library collection contains 1 200 000 volumes. Every year acquisition equals to 30 000 items.
Some publications are available on-line, for instance, the full collection "Computer science". Users of the library use electronic information sources to a great extent. Students can have access to full database using computers in Reading Halls.
Saint-Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI" is located in the historic center of the city on Aptekarsky Island. It takes only 10 minutes to walk from the metro station Petrogradskaya to University. The way lies along the river Karpovka and then by the Botanic garden which was founded by Peter the Great in 1714. Campus area is bounded by Aptekarsky prospect, Instrumentalnaya and Professora Popova streets.
