History
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many scholars from Concepción started to plead for the construction of a university for the south of Chile where it would be possible to study professional degrees outside the capital, Santiago. However, a project of this magnitude required a high level of organization, which as yet did not exist.

Review of an Astronomy Graduate at UdeC
The experience at the Universidad de Concepción was rewarding, with satisfactory results. However, the lack of field trips, visits to observatories and physical contact with telescopes left a gap in the academic experience.
Studying at Physical and Maths Sciences Faculty
I studied Geophysics at the Universidad de Concepción, in Chile. This is a five year program, which starts with two years of common sciences, a year of common geophysics (four geophysics areas: solid Earth, climate and meteorology, physical oceanography and renewable energies), and the last two years are of chosing an specialty. The program is good, and the courses are very interesting. But the lack of money is notorious in the dependences of the Faculty and the Geophysics Department, which always made problems. Though, each year this situation is becoming better and better, and the Faculty is renovating its spaces, I think it needs some years to be more organized.
