Vel Tech was established in 1997 by Dr. R. Rangarajan and Dr. Sagunthala Rangarajan as an engineering college affiliated to the University of Madras , with courses in computer science & engineering, electronics & communication engineering and electrical & electronics engineering. From 2001 the college was affiliated to Anna University.

Academic programmes are offered in engineering, management, media technology and law. The academic curriculum of the institution facilitates collaborative learning with research projects and taught by committed faculty members, leading experts from industries/organizations and international visiting faculty.

The Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) gives student's flexibility to choose the course of their choice and learn at their own pace. CDIO methodology is also practiced in the curriculum, an innovative educational framework for producing the next generation of Engineers. The Institution is the first member from India to implement and practice CDIO methodology.

Vel Tech is known as the top-notch Institution for its Internationally renowned quality in Multidisciplinary Research. The intersection of disciplines is emphasized, as new ideas emerge and impulse innovative research. There are ample opportunities for students/ scholars/ faculty to hone their research skills during their research work at the Institution. More than 30+ independent labs are facilitated to engage faculty and students’ in research work.

We aim to bring out the hidden and subtle talents of the students. To explore the right career path, various interactive sessions with the professionals from various organizations have been organized for the students. This helps students to understand the actual demand and expectations from companies’ in the job market. Experts from Capgemini, IIIT Hyderabad, MAITRI Technology solutions, VENUS Geo, HICO, Jingsung etc. joined hands with Veltech to provide insights to the students in the form of workshops and seminars.
