Utsunomiya University was first established in 1949 by integrating three different national colleges: Utsunomiya Agricultural and Forestry College, Tochigi Normal School and Tochigi Normal School for Youth. It became a national university in 2004.

Housing services

International House is located in the same compound as Student Dormitory No. 1 and No. 2. Various activities such as Japanese lessons and cultural exchanges are organized for international students and their families in the lounge or meeting room at International House.

The University Library comprises the Main Library (Mine Campus) and the Engineering Branch Library (Yoto Campus) and holds more than 640,580 volumes.

  • Utsunomiya University is located in the city of Utsunomiya, the prefectural capital of Tochigi. Notable sites near Utsunomiya that always attract many tourists include Nikko, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Kinugawa Hot Springs and the Nasu vacationing area.
