Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine is an international team of scientists dedicated to exploring some of the most exciting and challenging questions of life. The topics range from stem cell research and the investigation of mechanisms that control the formation of blood vessels to research on inflammation processes

History

On March 23, 2001 the Max Planck Society chose Münster as location for the Max Planck Institute for Vascular Biology, and on August 1, 2001 the new institute was founded. The decision did not come about incidentally.

Education

The focus of our work is on basic research. However, Institute scientists cooperate closely with physicians at the nearby University of Münster – so that the insights gained in the labs of the Max Planck researchers can benefit patients as rapidly as possible.

Research

In our various research teams, we are seeking answers to these and other questions about important life processes.

The teams are subdivided into three permanent departments, 4 research groups and one Emeritus group, some of which carry out autonomous research projects and which are only temporarily affiliated with the Institute. In addition, there are project groups, which are independent groups  that are associated with a Department. You will find these at the pages of the respective departments.
