Ashoka University is a pioneer in its focus on providing a liberal education at par with the best in the world. The aim at Ashoka is to help students become well-rounded individuals who can think critically about issues from multiple perspectives, communicate effectively, and become leaders with a commitment to public service.

History

Ashoka University is named after Emperor Ashoka (c. 304 – 232 BC) who represents India’s highest values and ideals. Emperor Ashoka’s dhamma revolved around liberal thought and education. Having personally undergone a self-transformation, Emperor Ashoka went on to spread his ideas far and wide across Asia.

Ashoka University’s schools are dedicated to fostering excellence across a range of disciplines, from Humanities and Social Sciences to Economics, Finance, and Biosciences. Each school is designed to blend rigorous academic inquiry with interdisciplinary research, equipping students to address real-world challenges. With support from visionary philanthropists, Ashoka’s schools strive to create inclusive, transformative education and drive impactful research at the intersection of science, society, and innovation.

Research

Research at Ashoka is driven by curiosity and the pursuit of excellence — whether it’s exploring fundamental questions in physics or understanding the layered history of the Indian subcontinent. Ashoka has a large number of national and international research collaborations. Its faculty are internationally recognised and many have received prominent awards for their research.

Undergraduate Degree at Ashoka University

Overall, my experience at ashoka was enriching and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a rigorous, liberal arts education at the undergraduate level. Given that I had completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) before ashoka, ashoka was a smooth, next natural step for me, in terms of educational pedagogy. The key factor that attracted me to ashoka was their commitment to interdisciplinary and critical thinking that allowed me to study my chosen major (economics and finance) not in isolation, but in conversation with various other academic disciplines. Critical thinking is deeply embedded in ashoka's pedagogy. It has developed my ability to be self-reflexive, questions ideas and institutions around me and form complex and coherent arguments. The focus on reading, writing, and communicating academic literature was an added advantage that has made me a confident scholar.

The Residence Life Policy is dedicated to creating a safe, comfortable, and vibrant residential experience for students on campus. For civil and congenial participation in the campus residence life experience, students are expected to familiarise themselves and abide by this policy. Any violation of this policy will result in a disciplinary infraction with a consequent course of action as decided by the appropriate University committee.

Library services

The library is a place that values education in all forms. Our library supports hybrid learning by equally emphasising on both print and digital material, thanks to its cutting-edge infrastructure. It is a private location for research, study, and partnership. The library now has more than 99,400 print volumes, many of which are unique collections that are waiting to be discovered.

Medical services

Campus life

The campus is a vibrant hub of cultural and intellectual activities. The Office of Student Affairs works toward building opportunities that help students nurture their creative endeavours while striving for excellence. The University recently laid the foundation stone for a new 27-acre campus in Sonipat. Adjacent to the existing campus, the new complex will have 6 academic buildings, 10 residential buildings, utility and services buildings and a sports field. The campus will address Ashoka’s increasing focus on the Sciences and research.

At Ashoka University, sports and exercise are integral to the student experience. Our approach to nurturing global citizens extends beyond the classroom and into our state-of-the-art sports facilities, where students are encouraged to push their boundaries and discover their potential. This journey fosters self-awareness, discipline, and transformation, preparing students to create meaningful change within themselves and their world.

Student clubs

At Ashoka, when not occupied with academics, students will find themselves immersed in pursuing their hobbies and interests through clubs and societies! These will give students an ocean of opportunities to contribute and enrich their campus experience culturally and intellectually. Ranging from music, dance theatre, gaming, community engagement, creative writing, photography and much more, students may choose from amongst the array of existing clubs and societies functioning on campus, and also initiate their own! At Ashoka, clubs and societies are bodies that design their own leadership structure and modes of functioning.
