The University of Science and Technology succeeded the Kumasi College of Technology which was established by a Government Ordinance on 6th October, 1951. It was however, opened officially on 22nd January, 1952 with 200 Teacher Training students transferred from Achimota, to form the nucleus of the new College.

My overall study experience in chemical engineering has been incredibly rewarding, especially the way it bridges hardcore thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and reaction kinetics with real-world industrial applications. I really loved the hands-on lab sessions and process simulation projects—they made abstract concepts tangible and sharpened my problem-solving skills. What could be improved is the balance between theoretical coursework and practical industry exposure; more site visits or guest lectures from process engineers would help connect the dots earlier. I’d summarise it as a challenging but deeply satisfying journey that trains you to think systematically, embrace failure as part of design, and appreciate the sheer scale of chemical production.
My study experience was okay but a bit challenging in a practical sense. The university lecturers were really making efforts for us; they made us understand the course by asking us application questions. Unfortunately, the laboratory wasn't well equipped so I couldn't not get the hands on practical experience
The experience of studying MPhil pharmaceutical microbiology has been insightful and highly theoretical; however, the real-life application and knowledge-based problem-solving skills are lacking. There's less of an internship program to master in this field, and less practice.
