History
In 1927 Leland Ghent Stanford chartered a private graduate institution called Balboa Law College in San Diego (USA), which later changed its name toBalboa University in 1945. In 1952, Balboa University again changed its name to California Western University, and a year later Dr. William C. Rust became the university’s president.
Education
As part of their growth and development, students formulate and articulate the ethical standards and develop the leadership skills which will guide their professional and personal lives. This is accomplished through formal courses in discipline areas and active engagement of students in leadership roles both inside and outside the classroom.

USIU is a home away from with the best education one can get. It’s the perfect place to free your mind of the restraints of life and allow your ideas thoughts and opinions run free.
Housing services
The student halls of residence allow them to live close to instructional and academic support buildings, the dining facility and other university services. Two residential buildings accommodate 258 students on campus. Facilities in the buildings include the Table Tennis/Darts/Pool Room, three TV Rooms and a Study Room.Unlike most colleges, the residence halls provide fully furnished rooms for accommodating two residents in each room. Each room therefore has two beds and mattresses, study tables, chairs and wardrobes. There are communal bathrooms on each floor shared by occupants from four rooms.A telephone is located on each floor for incoming calls.
Library services
This facility is used to locate library information resources including books, AV materials, and journal titles. OPAC searches provide information on what is in stock in the USIU-Africa library. Sports facilities
At USIU-Africa, we try to keep students active in different extra-curricular activities. The Sports Office co-ordinates sports activities. USIU-Africa sport teams represent the university in various leagues within and outside the country. In order to engage as many students as possible in sports, the university provides participatory sports programs. Students are encouraged to participate in sporting activities for leisure, recreation, as well as development of talents.
Accreditation
USIU-Africa has been accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) since 1978. It received its Charter through the Commission for University Education (CHE) in Kenya in 1999. Thus USIU-Africa has a dual accreditation.Accreditation is a formal recognition by an accrediting body that an institution is competent to carry out specific tasks. The purpose of accreditation is to ensure that education provided by institutions of higher learning meets acceptable levels of quality.
