Tongji University School of Medicine

The medical school has a long history. The "German Medical School" founded in 1907 which is the beginning of Tongji Medical Discipline and the Prototype of Tongji University. After a hundred years of vicissitudes, at the beginning of the new century, medicine has taken root again in Tongji University and has become a key construction discipline and embarked on a path of rejuvenation.

The undergraduate programs of TUSM include clinical medicine (5+3 integrated direct-entry classes), rehabilitation therapy, and nursing. The school has now set the doctoral and master programs of the first-level discipline of clinical medicine, the doctoral and master programs (professional degree) of the first-level discipline of clinical medicine, the master programs of the first-level discipline of basic medicine, public health and preventive medicine, pharmacy, traditional Chinese medicine, and biomedical engineering, and the master programs (professional degree) of the first-level discipline of nursing. It has also established two postdoctoral research centers.

TUSM possesses one Key Laboratory of the State Ministry of Education (the basic research direction of heart disease), eight National Key Clinical Specialties (the department of thoracic surgery, of digestive medicine, of obstetrics, of occupational medicine, of respiratory medicine, of traditional Chinese medicine, and the major in emergency medicine and in clinical nursing) and an array of Shanghai key disciplines (specialties) and clinical medical centers.
