History
The roots of higher education in Eger can be traced back to the beginning of the 18th century. Legal instruction started in 1740, while teaching of philosophy was launched in 1756 along with the establishment of the College of Theology in 1700.
Education
Today, Eszterházy Károly University serves its students with a wide variety of educational programmes at four campuses located in four cities of the region. In addition to taking courses in the traditional fields of pedagogy, the natural sciences, the creative arts and the humanities, students are also able to embark on undergraduate and graduate programmes in fields that meet the demands of the marketplace while also allowing for individual success and fulfilment.
Research
The Knowledge Transfer Office of Eszterházy Károly University has been operating as a service unit of the University's Research and Development Centre. The main purpose of the centre is to strengthen the relations between the industrial sector and higher education, and to enhance the efficiency of the knowledge transfer activity of the university.The mission of the unit is to focus on developments concerning real problems and to stimulate innovative activities of the university's researchers and students.

Experience gained
Eszterházy károly university is a very good place to study in because it helps me out a lot and still helping me to improve my IT skills, we have teamwork which is well organized, we do projects, I really like it.

Student services
By adopting the powers delegated by the Rector, the Centre for International Relations is an organization unit controlled by the Vice-Rector for Scientific, Research and International Affairs and the Chancellor. The sharing of control between the Vice-Rector and the Chancellor is stipulated in the Operational Provisions of the Centre for International Relations.
Housing services
The University maintains state-of-the-art and affordable student hotels in all the four cities of Eger, Gyöngyös, Sárospatak and Jászberény, providing comfortable housing and social life for the students.
Library services
The Tittel Pál Library has four campus-libraries (Eger, Gyöngyös, Jászberény and Sárospatak). Their mission is to provide collections and services that support the educational goals of the University.
The National Educational Library and Museum in Budapest is the information centre for educational science, public education and the history of education.
Campus life
- Eger, with its population of 60,000 is a popular tourist attraction; each year, hundreds of thousands of tourists visit the city's spectacular Baroque monuments and historic buildings, the Castle recalling the days of Hungary's heroic resistance against the Ottoman Empire, the Minaret built during the Turkish Conquest and enjoy the open-air Bath and the taste of the Eger wines.
- The Gyöngyös Károly Róbert Campus of EKU is located at the foothills of the Mátra mountains with an easy access to Budapest, the capital of Hungary
- Jászberény, with a population of 28.000 is a town with a pleasant atmosphere in the North Great Plain region of Hungary, 80 km from Budapest.
