History

Founded in September 2003, Galen University was established as Belize’s first independent university, offerings degree programs in Accounting, Anthropology, Business Administration, Computer Science, Economics, Environment Science, Entrepreneurship, Criminal Justice, Social Science and Marketing.

Education

Over the years, Galen has contributed to national growth and development by offering a range of unique undergraduate and graduate degrees using a hybrid online and face-to-face learning approach.

Over its short history, Galen has achieved many firsts in Belizean higher education. These include undergraduate degrees in such fields as Anthropology, Environmental Science, Marketing and Economics. The year 2013 marked another first: the introduction of its online degree programs, using both synchronous and asynchronous modalities. In addition to its existing B.Sc. (Business Administration and Accounting) programs, Galen also launched its B.Ed. (Elementary) program on its online platform in 2013, serving hundreds of “in-service” teachers around the country who needed a “professional upgrade,” enabling them to acquire their full teacher’s license.

My Review

The university is a federal university and also a technology university. They don't joke with taking lectures. But there is delay in the cause of studying due to lecturers going on strike when they weren't paid by the government their salaries.

Student services

The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) creates an environment that champions student support beyond the classroom. OSA provides quality programs and services to students and the greater campus community. These programs and services are designed to enlighten, enrich, and empower students to achieve their greatest potential in the pursuit of their academic and personal development. Check out all our programs, resources, and opportunities available to you.

Campus life

Our main campus is located at Mile 62.5 on the George Price Highway in Central Farm, located within the beautiful Cayo District. We are surrounded by a diverse ecosystem of flora and fauna, providing a perfect place to learn and grow among our dynamic mix of global students and faculty. We are in the process of designing our new “university city,”, complete with lecture halls and laboratories, an organic university farm for teaching purposes, student and faculty residences, a campus store, a restaurant, and recreational facilities. Our new campus will be located about a mile away.

Sports facilities

The Department of Athletics in conjunction with the Office of Student Affairs organizes sporting activities allowing students to participate in intramural and/or varsity sports. Participation in sports promotes healthy living within the Galen community. Sports activities foster an environment in which our athletes are encouraged to demonstrate sportsmanship and fair play while promoting a strong sense of the Galen Eagles spirit.

As a member of the Association of Tertiary Level Institutions in Belize (ATLIB) Sports, the University’s Department of Athletics coordinates sporting teams to compete in the various disciplines under the Association’s charter including:

  • Basketball
  • Football
  • Volleyball
  • Softball

Student clubs

The Student Government Association serves as the voice of Galen students. We advocate for students regarding any issues that needs to be presented to the university. Not only internally, but the SGA also represents Galen University outside of campus with any issues that may impact the university and its students. The SGA also works diligently to create a welcoming and engaging campus community by planning events for all Galen students to attend.
