London College of Creative Media (LCCM) – formerly London Centre of Contemporary Music – was founded in 2002 as a music college. Its aim was to establish a new approach to teaching music that mixed an art school environment with the best of the music conservatoires and universities.

LCCM pioneered an educational model where music students have to master both performance and production – a combination that remains vital for most professionals today. With its degrees developed and delivered by leading industry professionals, LCCM’s innovative approach to specialist education prepares students for industry and employment from the moment they start at LCCM.

By January 2003, LCCM had moved into in its main building at 50-52 Union Street, London SE1 offering a two year full-time HND in Music Performance and Production and a one year NVQ Level 4 In Music Performance.

Work began on the development of the first degree for professional authors entitled “BA (Hons) Creative and Professional Writing” with a focus on how the written word was used across all formats, channels and platforms.

LCCM also sought to expand its focus on the business side of music by adding a BA in Music Industry Management. Completing this diversification, the college developed an MA programme in Creative Entrepreneurship.

The aim is to create a new approach to teaching music that mixed the best of the good universities and conservatoires with an art school environment. The courses that emerged embedded production with performance, establishing LCCM as the first music college where all students had to master both performance and production; a development that was increasingly evident in the music industry.

LCCM’s roots and relationships with the creative industries give you access to a network of professionals and contacts who will support your creative career for years to come.

At LCCM, we hold events and masterclasses throughout the year. We also host gigs at external venues around London. This gives our music students real performance experience. Now with our own music venue, we will be able to hold even more gigs and events.

Our masterclasses for students have included musicians, writers, producers and industry professionals. Previous artists we have hosted include Cory Wong, Marcus Miller, George Clinton, Fred Wesley, Pee Wee Ellis, Boy George, Michel Camilo, Mad Professor, Randy Brecker and Robben Ford.

Recently we have added events for writers including with published authors, games writers and other publishing professionals.

Student clubs

At LCCM we are also very proud of our extracurricular workshops. Two highlights are the LCCM Choir and the LCCM Beefeaters Drumline, both of which give students unique performance opportunities. In 2017, the LCCM won University Gospel Choir of the Year with some members chosen later to perform with artist and singer Jennifer Hudson.Notable gigs for the LCCM Drumline were playing at the UEFA Cup Final at Wembley, regular performances at The London Cabaret Club and at the 2015 London Drum Show. Our very own LCCM Choir has recently had the chance to perform live on-air for two radio stations. Moreover, a number of members were chosen to perform with the choir from renowned singing competition, The Voice UK.
