History
Aquinas College had its origins in the Novitiate Normal School begun by the Dominican Sisters of Grand Rapids in 1886 in Traverse City. The Novitiate Normal School was transferred to Grand Rapids in 1911, and in 1922 it evolved into Sacred Heart (later Marywood) College.
Education
Aquinas students receive a four year liberal arts education with over 100 majors and minors, which prepares them for employment, lifelong learning, and critical thinking. Students make real the vision of the college: Aquinas College is an exceptional Catholic liberal arts college that prepares individuals for careers of leadership and service in developing a sustainable and just global community.

In recognition of the importance of stimulating intellectual curiosity in all disciplines, we seek:

Housing services

From a detailed roommate matching process to customized programming, the Residence Life staff supports students through times of transition and growth, whether it be learning how to do laundry or handling conflict.

Accreditation
The School of Education at Aquinas College holds nationally recognized accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Awarded initial TEAC accreditation in 2013, the School of Education earned the highest level of accreditation through its most recent accreditation review with CAEP (April 2018-June 2025).
