History
Kwantlen College was formed in 1981, by separation from Douglas College. There were more than 200 suggestions in a contest to name the new South Fraser region college. The winning entry “Kwantlen” was submitted by Stan McKinnon. “Kwantlen” comes from the name of the Kwantlen First Nation in whose traditional territory the university is located.
Education
KPU offers bachelor's degrees, associate degrees, diplomas, certificates and citations in more than 120 programs. Almost 20,000 students annually attend courses at KPU campuses in Surrey, Richmond, Langley, Cloverdale, and Civic Plaza.

Services Available
Counter service, including cashiering functions, is available on the Richmond, Surrey and Langley campuses. In addition to providing one-on-one assistance in-person at the front counters, the SES team provides telephone and email support to students.
SES provides the following Front Counter services on the Richmond, Surrey and Langley campuses*:

Housing services
Since KPU does not provide on-campus housing facilities, all students arriving from outside of the Metro Vancouver region will need to find a place to live. We are pleased to provide some suggestions to help you locate comfortable accommodation that best meets your needs.
Homestay programs allow students to live in a Canadian home as a member of the family. Students share meals with their hosts, participate in family activities and conversations, and establish friendships with people who can help make the adjustment to new surroundings much easier. If this housing option appeals to you, please refer to the options below:
Library services
KPU has a library on each of its four campuses. The largest library is on the Surrey campus with smaller program focused collections available in Richmond, Langley, and Cloverdale. KPU students and faculty have access to millions of items through the library, including online journal and newspaper articles, print and ebooks, streaming media and more.
Medical services
KPU Counselling provides confidential services to students on a range of issues, such as:
- Adjustment to post-secondary studies
- Anxiety, depression, and grief
- Addiction
- Stress management
- Relationships and family
Campus life
Established by the government of British Columbia in 1981, Kwantlen, now Kwantlen Polytechnic University, has five campuses located in the Metro Vancouver region of British Columbia.
Sports facilities
KPU was previously a member of the Pacific Western Athletic Association (or PacWest) which is affiliated with the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association. The University had six varsity teams competing in four sports (Men's & Women's Soccer, Men's & Women's Basketball, Badminton, and Golf).
Student clubs
Student clubs open the door to getting involved, gaining invaluable experiences and making new friends! Clubs are a great opportunity to express yourself, grow as an individual, connect with others on your campus and your community, as well as better prepare yourself for life after graduation.
